Marvel Comics and DC Comics Differences
Anyone who has seen both marvel comics and dc comics would know that there are some differences between the two comics. I chose to point out these two comic book companies because they are the most dominant in the business.
Marvel comics and DC comics are dominant for their own reasons, and each had their time as the number one comic book company in the whole comic book industry. One thing they have in common is that both realized that they had to appeal and meet the needs of the comic book fans in their niches to achieve number one status in the comic book industry.

I guess, what I am trying to point out is the different approach Marvel comics and DC comics used to influence and reach different kinds of people. Doing this in turn extended the reach and influence of comic books in general.
In the beginning of comic books…
Superman was the first comic book hero in the scene. That is why Superman is at times referred to as the father of comic books and superheroes. This also explains why Superman is probably one of the most powerful if not the most powerful superhero in all of comics, for the reason that he is the oldest character and has years of development.
Superman is the master in his field of abilities. You would most likely not find another superhero operating in the level of superman. You can find comic book characters as strong as he is and you can find characters almost to or just as fast as or even faster than Superman is. You can even find a few characters that are invulnerable; however, there is no one superhero that is endowed with all these abilities to a seriously high level like Superman.
Superman possesses super hearing, super sight, super strength, super speed, and super breath. Superman is just super in everything. DC comic books were the ones who bought the rights to Superman. This makes DC comic books one of the first comic book companies. At that time they were called Action Comics. As Superman came into the scene in 1938, Superman experienced great success. This immediately put Dc comics at the top, since they were the ones producing the Superman comics.
Due to Dc comics success they were able to create other characters like Batman, the Flash and Green lantern later on in the years.
Then came Marvel…
As a result of Dc comics success with Superman and batman other comic book companies began to pop up and one of the more noticeable ones was Marvel comics. Under the creativity of Stan Lee, Marvel comics took a different approach in creating their characters.
Perfection vs. Relatable Superheroes…
Marvel comics wanted characters that the general public of the comic book audience could relate to. Marvel Comics issued the Fantastic Four, and the Incredible Hulk, and the people loved it, even though these characters were not like those of Dc comics. Although great in power, the Fantastic four did not have any secret disguise; they were like your everyday average people with their many daily issues.
The team consisted of a couple, a little brother and a best friend. They are almost like a family superhero. As for the Incredible Hulk, he is a man we all know to be Bruce Banner, but when angry turns into the raging, indestructible, uncontrollable being known as the Hulk. And Marvel had great success in these characters. I guess every fan in a sense did feel like they could relate to these characters.
These were superheroes that were not in the high echelon of society. Some of them even struggled with their identities and did not always want to be a superhero. One character many people know very well as the adolescent teenage superhero that had to learn the great responsibility of his powers, is Spiderman.
Many people love Spiderman for the reason that he is a superhero that is very relatable and even hits home for many teenagers and young adults as well. This is where the characters of Dc comics and Marvel comics mainly differ from my observations.
DC characters are characters that are nearly perfect. Unlike Marvel characters, they have no emotional weaknesses. Superman and Batman for example are perfect superheroes. You would never see Superman struggling with internal forces. Superman and batman would never be indecisive.
Superman, Batman and most of the DC superheroes usually do not struggle with mental psychological battles that impair them from being effective in their duties as superheroes.
On the other hand, it is not uncommon to see a Marvel character doubt his or her decisions and even him or herself. That is how Marvel comics wanted it to be; after all, humans at times do doubt their decisions and even themselves.
Internal Vs. External weaknesses...
The weaknesses of Marvel characters are found in internal forces, through mental battles and the weaknesses of DC comic characters are usually found in external forces.
Superman is probably the best example for this point. Superman is invincible except near a piece of rock from his home world most of us know to be Kryptonite. As indestructible as superman is, when he gets near one of the little green rocks he becomes really weak to the point where he can get knocked out by a regular person. Although I have heard he is getting immune to kryptonite in the more recent versions.
Another example is the effect of the Red Sun on Superman. The Red Sun reduces superman’s abilities to half or even less. For batman it is his belt. Taking away batman’s utility belt makes him a lot less effective against super villains. No charging of the Green lantern’s power ring would put the Green lantern right back into his natural human state.
As powerful as the supervillian Thanos from Marvel comics is, he always gets defeated and never accomplishes his goal of being supreme ruler of the universe. Why, it's been said that he psycologically (mentally or unconciously) believes he is not good enough to be supreme ruler of the universe, therefore he could never accomplish this goal.
I’ve mentioned all of this to show the difference between Dc comics and Marvel comics. The point I’m trying to prove is that there is a difference between the two comic companies, which may also be classified as their specific niche.
