Make Your Own Superhero

So you want to make your own superhero. Most people who want to make their own superhero are usually trying to get into comic book creation. On the other hand some people do it for fun. However, for right now, I would assume that you want to create a comic. If this is the case, and you are looking to make your own superhero for a comic book then there are some things you should consider. As a matter of fact, regardless of the cause, it is important to consider or take note of the popular superheroes created. You may be surprised of what you find.

When you research some of the popular superheroes of our society you may already have discovered that many of them share similar characteristics and background.

These characteristics and superhero background are not placed there by coincidence or mistake. It is a trend that many comic book superhero creators have known to work. Hence, they simply stick with it or change it up a bit by giving it a different spin. In some cases, some superheroes may share a few things here and there because the same creator created them.

Take Superman, Batman, and Spiderman for example. These superheroes had different creators, but are extremely popular superheroes that share a common background. What is the background they share? These superheroes are all orphans. Not to mention that there are also those like Wolverine, Cyclops, Static, Rogue, and many more who come from broken homes, where one or both parents are deceased.

I mean, think of how many concepts that have been made with having a superhero that comes from a destroyed home world but grows up an orphan and finds a new home on earth. He eventually becomes the savior/champion of earth.

Equipped with this knowledge you should be fine if you make your own superhero, right? Not quite so. Before you run off and make your own superhero of another orphan boy, there is a question you should ask. As a matter of fact, you may have already asked this question.

The question is: "How can I come up with an original superhero in a time like this"? There are so many superheroes that have been created. We have Superman, Batman, Spiderman, American Man (Captain America), Wonderman, Wonderwoman, Littleman (Atom), Bigman (Giant man), and even Antman for goodness sake. It seems like all the good superheroes have been taken. It’s not fair for people who came late into the comic book creation business. All we're left with are the bad superhero concepts like Boxman, Grassman, Foodman and Roachman. I mean, if we could have Maggot and The Tick, I don’t see why we can’t have Roachman. By the way, Flatman and Squirrel girl are already taken.

Needless to say that you don’t have to resort to any mediocre options simply because there are still many good original concepts, if you want to make your own superhero. If you’re having a difficult time on how to make your own superhero, it may be possible that you have limited your definition of a superhero to someone with superhuman abilities. This is a limiting definition because it is possible for a superhero to not have any superhuman abilities. However, a superhero does have to be above average in something and must be someone who could be looked up to for his/her passion, moral, ability, etc.

Before you make your own superhero to copyright or anything like that, you must make sure that many people could relate to your superhero. I joked a bit about the secret of a successful superhero concept is to make the superhero an orphan. But if anything, being relatable is the secret to an accomplished superhero concept. There are so many orphan superheroes because it is a concept that worked and something that the creators feel would connect people to the character.

Therefore, it shows that any kind of superhero can be popular, as long as many people can relate to him/her. Yeah, even Roachman. But you have to give him a bearable look and ability. If you want to make your own superhero, also make sure you are original in that there is no other superhero like yours. This is important because superheroes are property and you don’t want to infringe on another person’s property in order to avoid lawsuits.
