Independent Comics and Independent PublishersIndependent comics are comics that are usually produced by independent publishers. These comics sometimes even have only one creator who does the art work and the writing in the comic book. An Independent comic might have more of the authors own views and imagination than a comic book published through any other major comic book publisher. To begin with, that is why there are independent-comics. There are creators who value their work a lot and would not like any major changes made to their idea. In fact, it is likely possible that the typical publisher would not publish many of the independent comics that are around today, unless the comic idea as been modified to fit what is believed to be a popular concept in the comic book market. Self Publishing Sometimes creators don’t want to wait to get accepted into a major comic book company. This can literally take years and in most cases, it never happens. Instead of waiting to get into Marvel or DC comics, many creators decide to just start their own comic book. Due to the increase of technology the self publishing route is now the simpler route for aspiring creators to take. It is easier than ever to create a comic book and even market it to see if people are feeling what you have created. Despite the assumptions of what is popular in the comic book market, there are self published comics featuring comedy, adventure, action and all other genres that are found in great numbers today. These comics sometimes have an interesting story and a lot of times they don’t. In most cases one has to worry about not repeating concepts already created. As I mentioned earlier independent comics and self published comics would best express the author’s views on certain topics. These comics can be the most distinct in terms of concept. Independent Publishers An independent publisher regularly is a smaller publisher that is ran by a handful of people. In most cases the independent publisher is willing to specialize and take more literary risks than the larger publishers. They serve the niche markets and special interests. An independent publisher will often suit a writer’s creative needs better than the typical publishers and usually offer a more personal, one-on-one relationship with the writer.
