The Multiple Personalities of The Incredible Hulk The Incredible Hulk was San Lee and Jack Kirby’s creation and is usually referred to the multi personality of Bruce Banner’s alter egos (the Savage Hulk, Grey Hulk and Merged Hulk). In the creation of the Hulk, Lee and Kirby took the concept of the reluctant superhero even further. | |
The original story of the Hulk is about an atomic physicist named Dr. Bruce Banner. Dr. Banner constructs a powerful new gamma bomb to be tested at a U.S. Army base in New Mexico. Being hurried by a general, Banner continues with the testing anyway even though unsure of the results. An explosion was the result of this uncertain experiment. While the explosion is at hand, Banner sees that a teenager has wandered onto the desert like test site. Banner runs out to the site, leading the youth to safety but is unable to save himself on time as the explosion took place, which covered him with gamma radiation. Banner is unaware of the effect of the gamma rays on his body until he experiences frustration or anger, where he changes into a green, 7 feet or plus raging being we all know to be the Hulk. The Incredible Hulk was also an American television series that freely adapted the Hulk comic book character and ran between 1978 and 1982. The television series starred Bill Bixby as Dr. David Bruce Banner and Lou Ferrigno as the incredible Hulk. However, the origins of the incredible Hulk in the TV series really differed from the original comic book. This time Banner is a geneticist who has been traumatized by the loss of his wife in a fatal car accident and his guilt over his inability to save her from the burning wreckage. He begins to conduct research into the strange phenomenon where humans display supernormal levels of strength. This research was to understand why others faced with a similar traumatic experience as his were able to save themselves or their loved ones while under abnormally high emotional distress. Banner then concludes that high levels of gamma radiation from sunspots are the cause. To prove the theory, he induces his body with gamma radiation to see if he can instill supernormal strength into his body. Banner is unaware that the machine has been upgraded and carries a far higher dose than he intended. At first, he thinks that the experiment has failed, but later that evening he experiences a flat tire and injures himself with the lug wrench. This triggers the metamorphosis into the incredible Hulk. POWERS/ABILITIES Superhuman strength, endurance and healing factor. The strength of the savage incredible hulk increases exponentially as his anger increases. He is also near invulnerable. POPULARITY FACTOR
Dr. Bruce Banner is the typical man without any super abilities, but when angered or frustrated it results in a raging large green being, we call the Hulk. I guess a lot of people can relate to Banner and his struggle to control his emotions, especially his anger. Like with Banner, an individual’s anger may change him or her into a totally different person. The savage incredible hulk is one of those heroes who doesn’t willing try to be a superhero. He just wants to be left alone and unbothered by anyone. Many can also relate to this side of the Hulk. In a way the Hulk is selfish. Even with his great abilities he doesn’t try to play hero only if he feels like his space has been intruded.
