Comic Book Movies
Movie producers have been producing comic book movies for decades now. But with the increase in technology over the recent years, we are about to see the productions of more comic book movies on a grander scale.
Hollywood is running out of ideas, so they decided to look into the comic book world to find ideas that would generate money. It should not be a surprise to anyone, because comic books have been a part of the American culture and played a significant role in the American culture ever since its inception in America.
Many successful films in the past were based on comic book themes. As a result of these past successes, some producers have wanted to produce popular comic book characters, and have even attempted to do so. A Few producers knew that they needed more technology to pull off a solid movie about most central comic book characters.
Now that technology is at a place where the comic book characters can be done justice and presented as close as they are in the comics, these major movie producing companies are giving comic to movies more chances.
In the resent years we have seen the production of various comic book figures. We have seen Superman, Spawn, X-men, Spiderman, The Incredible Hulk, Fantastic Four, Hell Boy, Sin City, Transformers and the list goes on. These are just few, compare to what has been laid out regarding comic book movies. While watching these comic book characters come to life on the big screen, we have literally seen technology improve before our eyes.
Think about this for a moment, almost any comic book character can now be portrayed on the big screen in a real world setting. We’re not talking about the Incredible Hulk of the late 1970s to the early 1980s, where you can see them switch the people on the screen.
Many of us saw the Hulk movie in 2003. We saw how they made the actual transformation of Bruce Banner into the Hulk through the aid of technology and good ole convention. A lot of us have also seen the recent Spiderman movies. We saw how using computer graphics the engineers were able to make it possible for Spiderman to web swing across the entire city. Spiderman no longer has to swing across the same place. I’m referring to the old comic book movies when they had no other choice but to make the superhero fly or swing over the same area every time. People enjoyed it though because that was the best movie creators could display of the comic book character back then.
But now, if we see anything in the movies less than the actual representation of the comic book character, we (comic book fans) would consider the movie weak. And if the fans don’t like the movie and think it is inaccurate, most likely it would lead to a flop in the box office.
Because of the high expectation placed on comic book movies to duplicate the imagination of comic book creators into a real world setting, comic book movie producers are placed under pressure to perform. This is even evident in the flop of several comic book movies which I believe ties in to the comic book audiences’ high expectations for the movie and the producers ability to accurately present the character(s).
But one thing we (the fans) must also be aware of is that the creating of comic book movies is also new to some of the producers and many of the cast involved. So they too are learning for the first time. That is why even though a comic book movie flops, some progress was still made and these big time movie companies are willing to take a risk to create a part two.
With the experience gained from a part one, a part two is sure to be better in graphics, if not in storyline. This is especially true for very popular comic book characters that the producing movie company believes can still generate some revenue for them. For example, the comic book movie of the Hulk aired in 2003 gave the Hulk a somewhat… rubbery look. Most likely in Hulk 2 the Hulk would appear a little, hopefully even a lot more real.
Comic book movies are on the rise and would continue for a long while. Hollywood has always been in search for popular or successful ideas. Now, they are looking into popular story books, comic books even probably some oversea plots, to continue making money through movie productions.
